JOB SUMMARY
- Receive, coordinate, and relay requests for air medical transport.
- Responsible for quality and accurate documentation of all Communications Center activities.
- Flight follow aircraft (computer aided and/or manual sectional charts) on missions and initiates emergency action plans in case of incident/accident.
- Maintains positive relationships with customers and other air medical transport providers.
- Calculates and provides price quotes for non-emergent air medical transports. Coordinates all aspects of patient transports, nationally and internationally.
- Effectively manages the transfer center to ensure that patient transfers are facilitated within a timely manner.
Other duties that may be assigned.
- QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Prior fire, police, or EMS dispatch and medical terminology background preferred
- Possess intermediate knowledge and proficiency with computer operating systems.
- Ability to type at least 25 words a minute.
- Excellent Customer Service skills.
Ability to handle stressful situation involving multiple simultaneous critical events in an organized and professional manner is a must

Full and Part – Time Positions Available
Job Description:
Carilion Clinic Patient Transportation, LLC is currently seeking qualified Communications Specialists for full-time, part-time and flex (as needed) positions. This position is responsible for the dispatch and coordination of rotor-wing (LifeGuard 10 & 11) and ground BLS, ALS, Neonatal – Pediatric, and Critical Care transports from the Communications Center located in Roanoke, Virginia.
As of March 5, 2010, the Communications Center has posted three full time Communicator positions. If you only have part time availability, you are still encouraged to apply.
Qualifications:
Virginia certified EMT, or NREMT with ability to receive reciprocity.
*ALS is preferred but EMT’s are encouraged to apply
Working knowledge of medical terminology.
Understanding of aviation terminology (preferable).
Excellent customer service, decision making, and communications skills.
Ability to perform in stressful and emergency situations.
Proficiency with Windows based applications and able to type at least 35 wpm.
Excellent map reading skills.
NAACS Certification (preferred) or complete within 1 year of hire.
All applicants must successfully complete initial training and orientation and maintain all required recurrent training.
